  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

:help: So some friends of mine have been doing a FF league the last few years and I never got into it because I don't follow football at all. However, one of the guys that played last year doesn't follow it either and he said he was still able to play. So, I decided I'd do it with them this year just for kicks. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to do it? I mean, from the very basics, I've never done it before and know nothing about it. Thanks.

The best advice that I ever received was to draft Kickers 1st.
Every NFL team only has 1 kicker so the good ones go fast.
There are plenty of QB RB & WR to go around!

It all depends on the type of league you're in, rules, and scoring. Without knowing that its hard to advise you on an approach. There are quite a few different leagues out there. Obviously you want the best player available at all positions but that's about all I can say. Buy a Fantasy Football magazine and do some player research. Its definitely fun. I remember when I first started out I didn't know anything but I did pretty good. I won it all in my second season.

I found Rotter's top 300 and Tier Ranking lists and put them into Excel format. Do these change, or will they stay the same for the next two weeks? Or is that just a list that he's generated?

It's good to read the lists that are published but depending on the league you're in, they may not do you much good. If you are in a league that favors WR's, you probably don't want to take a RB with your first couple picks, even if they are ranked really high on the published lists.

Figure out how many points are awarded in the league you're in. Points for TD's, how many points per xx amount of yards, etc. These point totals will likely vary by position to. So if a RB gains 10 yards, he may get 1 point, but it may take a WR 25 yards to get a point.

You can practice your draft skills here with mock drafts as many times as you like.

http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/

Typically you do two RBs 1st, next one QB, then two WR, one TE, your last WR, kicker then defense.

It does help a little to know things like who are the leagues passing QBs and who do they like to throw the ball too? Which coaches like to run the ball more than pass. You may want those RBs. Things like that. Also which players are hurt or may be retiring.

Yahoo has a great draft kit available for a free down load.

Hope this helps.
