  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

FINALLY. the A3 cigar from my pack was a true corona gorda, 5 5/8 x 46, another maduro, but possibly with a different capa? looks like broadleaf, smells like broadleaf, but it just looks and feels TOO damn smooth! a little mottling to the color kept this from being just black licorice color, in all honesty, but it had clean lines and great seams and cap. felt rock solid at first blush, but after cutting it drew perfect, to snug to be open and too easy to be tight. there was a slight musky animal quality to the body: less barn and more house pet curled up on the couch with you. the prelight draw came off sweet and savory in equal measure.

the initial light pulled a perfect draw, with a slight nasal spice and a rich midpalate texture. the first third was sweet and savory, with some slight ammonial quality (not in a bad way, but it came off as young to me), with a center of wood and leather.

at the second third, a pulled pork and peppercorn thing rolls through (yum!) for just a few moments, transitioning into a hot chocolate-y vibe, dash of cinnamon and nutmeg. the ammonial thing comes back very slightly, but this time tied to a tart black cherry vibe. the burn has been 20 degree or so off perfect the entire time, no big, and smoke production started good and got better.

there is more of a candied bacon thing going on at the last third (OH YES, it is a thing, and you need it in your life!). one small touch up past the band that was more anal-retentive that necessary. the ash hols in consistent 3/4" clumps, but falls with little warning (i'm cool wi wearing good cigars. good food to, if it comes to it). at the end of it i am getting a well sauced and well smoked ribby thing. the cap has become a mess, but well past the point where your average smoker would give up, so no harm no foul, it fought well. o)

all in all, a great smoke that could have benefitted with down time, possibly lots of it. this stuck me as a smoke you could bury for five years easy, if you could wait. as it was now, it was a slow starter into a beautiful mid and finish, with a burn time of 1:15 (i know! pacing!). score of 92, meaning i might question my allegiance to butter if necessary. guess of current release anejo46.

thanks for reading!

Great Review! Glad you like the smoke, A3 was actually an El Titan de Bronze Redemption Maduro :) (Purchased in December 2012, so it is probably young)
