  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

A4 is a perfect box pressed toro, 6 1/2ish by 52? (gauged by eye). firm enough, well rolled and well pressed to an even but well rounded rectangle of ugly-a$$ broadleaf glory. gamey and rich on the body, and worn leather and old books on the foot, like a good reading nook. the cigar rests just HEAVY in the hand, like a damn brick! the preflight draw is just firmer than open, and flows syrupy and dark across the palate. time to spark. o)

PEPPER proud and strong, just short of belligerent greets the nose, as easy pulls of blue-grey smoke wrap like tendrils around the lit foot. neat! as the pepper blast dies a couple pulls in, the mouth is greeted by something like brownies made of old comfortable sun warmed leather sofa. notes of unsweetened cafe con leche, prunes, and young cedar. the texture of the smoke is like high thread count jersey cotton, good t-shirt sheets, and i really don't know to smoke it, eat it, or cuddle in for an afternoon nap. going slow really brings out sweetness, and it holds an easy one inch ash, about perfect burn line for broadleaf as well.

(note on the wrapper what looks like glitter. it ain't, but rather is on or in the wrapper leaf)

the 2/3 mark brought some sourness into play for me, good like asian food balancing sweet, spice, sour, and savory. spice crept back into the sinuses as well.

the end was big and bold, spice meeting the palate this time, and that recurrent but fleeting sour note is calling out "orange beef" to me (went and got some szechuan later!). burn got a little stupid at the nub, but didn't affect the flavor or draw, so i didn't give a toss. really didnt notice the strength of this beast until the nub, where it gut punched me good, and that had been a while. final burn time was 1:50, but could have taken longer had a sugary beverage and some take out not been calling.

all in all, this was a brawny and sexy smoke if you like broadleaf (which i do, and am biased, sue me). while the vitola was a little big for my normal preferences, i really wouldn't mind burning this again whenever i had two plus hours available. for my rating, i'mma give a 94; a steady supply of these might make me go veg if necessary. for my guess, i'mma say tat cojonu '12 reserva, but with that wrapper (and it's flecks of sparkly) and the way it hit, it has got to be garcia made, and for mr.J.

thanks for reading, hope it made you hungry! o)
