  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Fausto Robusto Extra (5.5x52)

Giving the classy band a classy shot.

The Fausto is a beautifully rolled cigar: firm, with the right amount of give when squeezed. A smooth, silky, slightly oily and dark brown wrapper finishes the presentation.

The pre-light gives a nice spice through the nose.
The first few puffs are all pepper and spice. It settles down with the spice remaining in the background and flavors of earth and leather emerge. Add some sweet tobacco and we're off to a great start.

The sweet earth and leather is always present, coating the mouth and leaving a long finish of delicious flavors.

Into the second third, the pepper has completely faded and there's a minute amount of spice that still lingers in the smoke. It's heavy on earthy-notes at this point, while still remaining sweet. The burn has been superb, it has never required even the slightest touch up. The draw is spot on in my book, just a tiny tug and it booms out huge clouds of smoke.

Into the final third the Fausto doesn't change much from the second third. It still has that sweet leather and earth flavor, without any spice or pepper.

The Fausto is a good cigar, but I feel it pales in comparison to the original T110. If I recall, the T110 is full of pepper and strength. The Fausto on the other hand, seems to lack that wonderful pepper flavor (except in the first third) and its strength is more subdued.

While I'll take the original over this blend anyday, it will still be a great cigar to smoke after a big meal. It will definitely find a spot in my humidor.

A nice and honest review of what I imagine will be just that....a good, solid cigar.

This review, although only up briefly, hasn't quite gotten the fanfare as a "95 pointer" might.....but hey, I get that..LOL. I traded for a nice little sampler of these (majority in the Toro vitola), and admit i'm curious.

Thanks for the review, and great pics!

I smoked my first Fausto last night. The pepper in the beginning was so strong and overwhelming. I actually was happy when it died down. For me the pepper was too strong through the first 3rd and then turned into a nice bitter chocolate and espresso flavors the rest of way. I'm happy it didn't stay so strong because I didn't care for it at first. I'd rock these on occasion. Not sure if I'd pick up a box but I'd for sure keep a few in the humi.

I know they wont be as good as the T110, but I have hope in Pete. He said they are the exact same blend minus it being a different crop, so I have high hopes.

It's still a good cigar, gentlemen.

While it's not the potent pepper-stick that the original T110 was, it's still a damn fine cigar that deserves to be smoked.

Man, all I got was pepper at first. If this isn't potent compared to the T110 then I can only imagine how silly that thing was.

I've had the 5.5 x 52 and the 6.75 x 48 sizes. I enjoyed them both but the 48 ring gauge a bit more.... I had similar thoughts as the review: the stick started out with a lot of pepper. There was some bitter coffee taste after the first third, with some earthiness at mid point and beyond. It's amazing because I'm checking my notes and I'm tasting similar things as the others that have posted... that doesn't happen sometimes. The strength sneaks up on you as it actually got to me a bit... to be honest, it killed my palate for the next few hours. I couldn't taste the next cigar that I smoked.

Concerning the comparisons to the T110, I don't know since I recently got my hands on one and I'm waiting for a weekend to try the two (T110 vs Fausto) within some kind of short period from each other.

It's a close call for me whether this is a box purchase. I think I would pop for the 48ish ring gauge. I do think age would help a bit, but I know there are folks that won't even smoke a cigar unless it has a few years on them. I think you can enjoy this cigar without age.

I appreciate the review and comments.

Went to buy a box at New Havana and they only have fivers. That was fast. I hate fivers.
