  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hello all... here is my first review for BOTL and my first taste of anything Viaje.

Viaje Oro Chico
Size: 5 1/2 x 44
Country: Nicaragua
Price: $7.80 from NHC
Draw: med-tight for the first third, opened up to a nice open draw after
Construction: Decent roll, but a horrible lop-sided tripple cap
Wrapper: Beautiful red/brown

Most of the 1st third was very muddled and non-distinct in flavors... Approaching the end of the first third the flavors became more distinct. A nice espresso aroma and a sweet finish. I am also tasting a touch of cream as well. The draw also opened up at this point. There Slight spice through the nose and possibly some citrus undertones (but nothing too overt).

Starting the second third, more nutty and roasted flavors are showing up. Hints of molasses and spice (cinnamon?) make themselves present every so often.

Approaching the final third I'm beginning to get a rich vanilla flavor and an increase in strength and overall body of the smoke. As the smoke finished I don't really want to put it down.

At first I was sorely disappointed, but once I got past that initial dullness, the smoke really came into its own unique self. The finish was rich, creamy, earthly and sweet with rich intense flavors all over the place. The other four I have will definitely accrue some age over the next few months, as this smoke seems to be a bit young. I can only imagine what they will be like then.

Rating: 90 (with the potential for a 92-93)
Will I buy again: Yes
Should you try them: Yes

Nice review! I've only smoked one Viaje, and it was this one. Mine never got past the "mudiness" with a bit of sweetness on the finish. I'll give them another try, though. I did have a few puffs off an Exclusivo once, and that was awesome.
