First Impressions: Xikar ZX Ultra Slim

Waited two months for this to come in. My first Xikar cutter. I have a slew of double guillotines so the Xi series never appealed to me.

First impressions:

Cuts a fat 64 ring gauge
Very slick looking
Blades that'll make a surgeon proud

Warning:
The carbon fiber veneers are not coated so if you run your fingers along the surface the wrong way you will get splinters. Huge negative to me.

Nice but that splinter thing is a big no no.

Considering the nature of the material, it is unhealthy when it enters your bloodstream. Is this the case with the Xi3 cutters?

I've got the XI3 Carbon fiber and never had or heard of splinter problems.

My Xi has been loyal to me for many years, also picked up a Palio a while back. I am just not impressed by this model of Xicar.

You can feel the checkered texture so I am guessing raw? I know it's not as smooth as the carbon fiber on my motorcyle.

I have the Xikar real carbon fiber Xi3 and have never had an issue. I had the Palio which was just some type of laminate that was intended to look like carbon fiber, it peeled within the first month.

I'd def send it in and get the coating issue fixed. Nice review on the cutter Chris. This looks like a nice portable cutter I could use for my golf bag. I've been meaning to pick up an extra one to leave in the bag for when I am on the course.
