First New Pipe

So, I just bought this Comoy on eBay. It's beautiful and it's the first new pipe I've ever owned.

Is there anything special I need to do before I smoke out of it? Or do I just pack it and light it?

I once tought you had to do some weird rituals to get good cake, but unless you're a believer, it won't change a thing.

Enjoy it while it's new, once you smoke it it's no longer a new pipe.

Chose wisely.

Some will say that you need to start with a burley based blend to build a cake. Think 5 brothers or carter hall. To build a good cake... Also others will say break it in with why your will primarily smoke out of it if you are going to dedicate it to a certain blend type (Virginia, Balken, English)

I just fill it with what I want to smoke that day and never do that but that's prolly what some may say

The only thing you need to do to that pipe before you smoke it is put some tobacco in it!

I just grab whatever tobacco I have that I feel like smoking at the time and go for it. I also always give the bowl a light brushing with a pipe cleaner when I'm done smoking it. The cake builds slower that way, but it's a better, more even cake that way I feel.

Congrats on the new pipe - I love getting a fresh one to smoke!

Pack half bowls with a burley blend like CA to develop a nice heel cake. Then full bowls afterward.

Smoke what you like, down to the heel. I used to break in my pipes with Carter Hall as is standard, but I started smoking whatever in new pipes and got the same result. Enjoy

Nice looking pipe.

Just be careful during the first dozen smokes not to smoke it too hot, or else you can burn out the bowl.

Some people have nutty rituals about these things, but I just smoke it like I would normally being careful to keep it cool
