This cigar was burned on 1/5/12, in a basement retreat, paired with water. Straight cut, no burn corrections or relights. Total burn time of 1:15.
The first "mystery meats" on the docket is a 5.5x42 corona-ish. Apologies, did not think to measure until AFTER. Oh well. The smoke came with a perfect flag twist cap, and closed foot, and presents with a gorgeous colorado wrapper that had an angry glow about it. Think "Fist of the North Star" right before heads start exploding. There is a musky and sensual savoriness in the prelight aroma and cold draw. Not barn, but rather almost coital. Yup, used it in a sentence! I always have issues with closed foot cigars, but minimal futzing and it came alive.
First impression is raspberry and cayenne, and the little bastard goes straight for my sinuses! Let it warm up a little, and got some dark chocolate as well, leading into sweet sweat, leather and musk. I am doubting my sanity at this point, but that is what I am getting, so I put some Prince on and roll with it.
Ash first dropped at over an inch, and right on me, which is fair as I was distracted. The flavor density was and remains great, and the draw and burn are just what I want to make this size rewarding. Flavors have progressed, with the spice way the hell in the back rows, but "the flavor" is still there, having added a rich heavy sweetness. Think maple syrup used recreationally.
Ash dropped again just past another inch as the sweetness deepened to a core of sweet wood, like a chewy mahogany footboard. The power finally raised up from solid medium to comfortably full, and I left it in peace just as I was starting the finger juggle.
This smoke is very familiar, but other than the obvious I cannot place where, and am left with no guess. The construction was superlative, and the flavor profile had a clear, if blue, narrative, and I would have no problem either reccomending this smoke or purchasing it myself.
Right after I get laid.
