Following a member

Did a search and came up empty.
Anyone know the purpose of "following" a member?

Have selected to multiple times and it seems to do nothing

When you follow a member, you see a their posts.

Yeah, I've never had anything happen after following someone.
No alerts,emails, etc
Checked the settings in Tapatalk and didn't see anything about it in there.
Oh well, no biggie, just curious
