Cigar A is the first out of three cigars that Neil (Fourtotheflush) has us writing a blind review and making an educated guess on.
prelight and uncut impressions
Size: Corona 5" x 42 Ring Guage
The most noticeable characteristics are its pigtail head and shaggy foot. It has a double cap with one of them extending well beyond the shoulders of the cigar, meaning the cap goes beyond the curved area of the head. The wrapper color can be characterized as Colorado. To the touch, there are no apparent soft spots with the cigar: it is well made. The wrapper doesn't give off too much of a smell, but the foot gives off a leathery smell.
I'm fairly certain that this cigar was my morning smoke for about 2 months; therefore, my pre-light & uncut guess is a Man 'O War Puro Authentico.
Here's a side-by-side comparison with my pre-light & uncut guess.
cold draw description
The initial draw is slightly tight. What is interesting is the amount of saliva that condensates on top of the wrapper.
1st third flavor and description
The initial first couple of puffs have a nice pepper blast, probably due to the shaggy foot. It has a leathery and earthy taste for about the first ¼ when a bitter cocoa taste started to form while the leathery and earthy taste stayed in the forefront. The pepper subsided slightly but is present throughout. I had to touch up the stick twice to keep the burn even, but nothing major. Actually, the burn might have corrected itself.
2nd third flavor and description
I almost forgot to take a photo its good. As you approach the midpoint, the cocoa taste becomes less bitter and takes more of a leading role while the earthy taste takes more of a back seat. I ended up touching it up one more time, but again nothing major. At the midpoint I get a slight citrus taste. It also started to take on a nice creaminess.
final third flavor and description
It has a nice creamy bitter cocoa and slight earthy flavor with a subtle sweetness and pepper that is still present and picks back up to the ¼ levels mentioned earlier. I can feel the spice on the roof of my mouth. It also gives off a ton of smoke for such a small cigar. That slight citrus taste also showed up again about ¾ left in the stick. The final third is the best part...
Overall
This is an extremely enjoyable cigar that took me about 50 minutes to smoke, a bit longer than I would expect for the size... for me. I also found myself nubbing it to the very end. The only complaint that I have: touching up the cigar on occasion.
I would like to thank Neil for the blind review.
My final guess after smoking the cigar... I'll stick to my original pre-light & uncut guess, a Man 'O War Puro Authentico.
