Cigar B is the second out of three cigars that Neil (Fourtotheflush) has us writing a blind review and making an educated guess on.
prelight and uncut impressions
Size: Toro 6" x 50 Ring Gauge
It is not very often you see a cigar with a quadruple cap.
That cap style makes me suspect an Oliva Serie V as I have seen this style of cap on that line before. The wrapper has a toothy and firm feel to it and a Colorado Rosado or reddish brown color. The wrapper and foot have a grassy like smell.
I am fairly certain Ive never smoked this cigar before but I have seen it within the last month. I think its a recent release and my pre-light & uncut guess is an Oliva Serie V Especial 2011 Maduro.
Here's a side-by-side comparison with my pre-light & uncut guess. I was able to locate a few from an online retailer:
cold draw description
In my opinion, the initial draw is perfect, airy enough to almost seem effortless to draw air through.
1st third flavor and description
I really like the doughy sensation or texture with the initial ¼ of the stick that has a bitter coffee taste. There is also a very slight sweetness. Then about a 1 into the stick, the flavor start to taste like bittersweet chocolate. This has a nice medium body to it and has a nice burn that is slightly wavy. There is some damage to the wrapper but is how I received the cigar.
2nd third flavor and description
The cigar holds the bittersweet chocolate profile for a while and well into the midpoint of the cigar. I have not mentioned spice, because there is not a lot of it but it is there slightly. And now that I have had some time to think about the flavor experience, I may be picking up some woody characteristics. And the bitter coffee taste takes hold again near the end of the second third of the cigar.
final third flavor and description
I can only describe the final third of the cigar as having a more intense flavor profile. The body, which I consider to be the richness or fullness of the flavor, picks up considerably. A spice kicks in with a 1 left to go, as well.
overall
Another enjoyable cigar offered by Neil that took me about an hour and 15 minutes to smoke. There is some subtle complexity but in the end I was always hoping for more change. I hope that I guess the cigar correctly, but regardless I would like to pick up some more of these to age and smoke, if I havent already. That said I wouldnt consider this box worthy imho since I have a lot of other cigars that I would purchase instead.
I would like to thank Neil again for the blind review.
My final guess after smoking the cigar... I have to stay with my original pre-light & uncut guess, an Oliva Serie V Especial 2011 Maduro. I have nothing else to go by since I dont think Ive smoked this size and release before. I will light up my guess in the next few days to confirm.
