  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

OK, so I know tons of BOTLs all over the place swear that freezing doesn't affect flavor. Frankly, I'm not sure my palate is advanced enough to tell.

What I'm wondering is if any of you can tell a difference? Is anyone out there willing to attest that freezing affects flavor in any significant way?

I've done this not too long ago; froze then for about 48 hours; thawed them in the fridge for 24, then left them out for another 24 hours and placed back in the humidor untouched undisturbed for about 3 weeks before I smoke any from that batch and I personally did not notice any change of flavor; the first stick I smoked from that frozen batch was a no9 and it tasted the same, at least to me.

On the BOTL Safari, Saka showed us the huge refer they made out of a shipping container. Ligas are frozen in box for 2 days. You don't hate Ligas, do you? :)

edit: OK, yeah, this is a Habanos thread. Maybe freezing them turns them to dog poop and gives you full-blown AIDS when you smoke it. I dunno. At least with NCs you're good to go. Sorry if my post answered absolutely no questions whatsoever. Everyone should be used to that.

Habanos S.A. Freezes everything before going out of country as well as most N.C. Manufactures. But I've still seen live beetles from Illusione, Dpg, Tatuaje and a couple dead and holy CCs. Everyone has to make their own choice about freezing ones collection or not.....

Is it common to freeze a collection? I've only frozen cigars that have gone through an infestation and/or cigars from questionable sources.

for the record...I have asked a few people(in authority type positions)in Havana...where the freezers are and how big they are...only ever gotten a strange look.
if there is a bulk freezing facility in cuba...it is kept well hidden from the "cigar/authority" types.
