  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I have a FB page I set up for a few of my smoking buddies so we could share our cigar experiences with one another. Here is a review one of them posted of the Fuente Short Story Maduro today. It was entertaining and I wanted to share with you fine folks. Enjoy!

Brand: Arturo Fuente
Name: short story Maduro
Size: perfecto (4x49)
ONCE UPON A TIME...
While driving around looking for lunch today, I risked being "t-boned" to abruptly pull into the cigar shop and see if they specifically had this bad boy... And, lucky me, they did. I was so excited about my luck that I also purchased a scratch off which brought me back to earth when I lost.
Initial impression: beautifully shaped cigar with a very dark wrapper. I believe I muttered "welcome home my Nubian princess" once, but only once. I didn't pick up initial undertones on the wrapper, but I stopped after a few attempts and after I realized I look like a dog sniffing to see if a bitch was in heat.
First draw: tiiiiiight. Like thick milkshake tight through a straw.
Burn: a little uneven a first, but evened out on its own.
Chapter 1: I was so focused on how tight the draw was that I wasn't even paying attention to the flavors. It eventually loosened up and I began to enjoy. Picking up leathery and some sort of woody flavors, I thought I also picked up some coffee. Surprisingly, there wasn't the boom boom pow spice that I've come to expect out of the maduros I've smoked previously, but the spice was there, subtly.
Chapter 2: very consistent with the 1st chapter of this short story. A lot of the same undertones. However, I felt that the cross fader was sliding towards the oaky side and less leathery. Also, I was delighted by the random shot of spice that I'd pick up on draws.
Chapter 3: much stronger wooded flavor by now, but still that consistent profile. There is a slight increase in the smoke temp, but nothing to close the book on this session prematurely.
Final draws: I smoked this down to the size of a tootsie roll and in those final draws I found the spice I was looking for! Almost like a happy ending.
Smoke time: 55 mins (much longer than expected)
Conclusion: this being my first review, I found this experience to be very enjoyable. I've never purposely picked out flavor profiles while smoking a cigar. What I enjoyed most about today's review is that in picking out that "wooded" flavor it added another dimension to my experience as I listened to the trees rustle in the wind and watched leaves fall.
I'd smoke this again, but I'd be interested to see how resting the cigar impacts it.
THE END.
