  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I have put golf to the side for the past couple of years and I intend on playing a little more this year. I have never been a scratch golfer, but I used to be a decent bogey golfer. To get to the point, I need to invest in some balls. I have been using the ProV1 and I am fairly happy with them, butI was wondering what balls you more experienced golfers are using these days and why?

I'm probably not more experienced (used to be a 12, but now a 20 or so), unless you count number of strokes , but I like Titleist NXT's. Love the feel around the greens, and I can drive them great.

my thoughts...

the tit-list ProVs have been the number one ball for quite some time. there are other brands that make the same claims but cost the same...bridgestone 330(?) for one. why pay the same money for a ball that hasn't proven itself. why? go with what is proven to be the best. tit proV. if you can afford them that is.

other good balls in my opinion...

titlist NXT
precept
i've always liked maxfli brands. the revolution was a good ball, but it cut and scuffed easily. i'm sure they've improve on that my now.
taylormade. decnet ball with good performance, but again, not the mainstream like ProV

always been a fan of ben hogan balls. but again, if i'm gonna spend 35+ on a box of balls, why not spend an extra $10 or so and get a ProV.

i guess bottom line is if youre trying to spend less, there are a ton of good balls around 25-30$.

but if your' gonna pay $35 and up anyway, go witht he ProV

I am good friends with a salesman at the company where I used to work so he gave me prov1 logo balls for free. Since I no longer work there, I hate to ask even though I know he would not care. With the birth of my son (who is soon to be 2), I had to put golf on the back burner. I was cleaning off the clubs today and noticed I only have two sleeves left, and I know I will surely loose a few before I get my feet back under me.

I love the ProV1s, and I'm about where you are in my golf game. I started using the Callaway HX line because, well, it matched my stuff. I haven't been disappointed. They are nice balls. The only problem I have is I get nervous when I break out a new sleeve. I'm always affraid I'm going to plant it in the woods... So I do.

check out ebad for a good deal on used provs. i usually buy a couple dozne used for cheap. early inthe season, or in your case, early into your re-entry to the game, it doens't hurt as much to loose or scuff less than new balls.

FWIW, i only use a new ball if i'm playing in a serious match or at a nice course where i want to feel my best. there's nothing like pulling out a nice new shiny ball on that first tee. or pulling out another nice new shiny ball on hole #6 after you hit it in the water.

On a nice course, it adds to your confidence to play with a good new ball. look good, play good.

but for average every day play, no one is gonna even notice that nearly new shiny ball you got on ebad; and they probablyh wouldn;t notice that brand new ball either, but it gives YOU confidence palying that new shiny ball.

decnet balls for a normal round. good balls for that extra special round

After all is said and done here is the real deal,,,if you are a bogey golfer then the ball isn't going to make any huge difference in your game,,,minimal at best. You might, just might see a 2 stroke difference in your game but the reality is that unless your game is in the 1 to 2 handicap range you're not going to see an appreciable difference. A bogey golfer finds himself hitting shots that will find himself in the OB or lake area of the course and it's not the golf ball, it is the golf player. When your game gets into an area that is more consistant and you aren't worrying about where you ball is going you are only worried what side of the green its going to land then you can start to think about what kind of ball to play,,,soft for landing on the greens, putting, etc.

Hey Ish, If i were you i wouldnt buy brand new nice balls like titleist or callaway if your gettin back into it after a few years. but i do like the titlest NXT and anything callaway as a all around good ball. if you are a big distance hitter, i recommend nike juice. Go to Wally World, score a box (15) of the new Top Flite D2 Feel-green box. They have a D2 in the red box as well, go for the green/feel.

If you like the Pro V1, you will definitely like the new Top Flite. Plenty of feel around the green for chipping and putting-and almost as long off the tee.

I play to a 4/5 in the golf friendly months and a 6/7 in the winter. For just beating it around with my buddies, I play the new Top Flite ball. If I'm playing tournament golf, I play the V1X-more spin and a bit longer.

At $15 for a 15 pack, you won't be weeping if you blast one "Oscar Bravo".LOL
And if you play in a tourney, it won't be a drastic change in performance/feel.:cjump:

If you're smokin good sticks, no reason you should be playing pinnacle's!

Ish Pm your addy. I got 9 dozen assorted titleist balls on Ebad for $32 Shipped. I can drop you a couple dozen balls that you can lose and feel fine with. I've also seen some craigslist deals recently. Ebad is the way, these balls are like new, but random logos, and rare scuffs. literaly, my bag is heavy from all the damn balls I have in there. I though I would be losing more balls for longer. Somehow I got decent enough that I don"t lose more than 1 per round. So I got you taken care of for at least two rounds. And unless you are gonna get all snobby and say you need the best of the best, I OWE YOU!!!!

NO only 3 of them, in the first round....I already had the ebay balls. I have only played pitch and putts since then, so i don't want to break them out. Soon enough, and I'll smack one down the fairway in your honor.

The thing about a good ball is that it gives you confidence. I'm going to lose some balls and I'm going to BLOW UP on some holes, but I want to know that when I do get my birdie hole and 4 or 5 par holes that all my stuff will do what it's supposed to. I know every other ball will be just about the same on 90% of the shots, but I feel better about it. Plus, I hit 350 a couple times a round. 350 sounds a whole lot better than 325.:ccowboy:

I am an avid golfer with a 8 handicap and knowledgable in golf equipment.

ProV1 are great golf balls, but I don't even play them since my swing speed is 100 mph and to gain the benefits of the ProV1, you need to be consistently swing 115+ mph. I prefer softer balls, so I can hit short irons into the greens with greater feel and think the Bridgestone RX 330 balls are perfect. During the winters or cooler weather, I'll play the Bridgestone e6+ and those are $20 per dozen. Bogey golfers who like the ProV1 and want maximum performance will benefit from the e6+, Callaway HX Hot and Titleist NXT Tour. All are priced in the $20 range and won't spin as much as the ProV1, which will avoid those nasty slices and hooks.

Good luck and hope to play with you sometime...

I agree with vorra65, if you are just getting back in to playing again go with with the Top-Flite D2, it is a good inexpensive ball.

Personally, I have tried many and ended up using the Nike One Platinum because I needed a ball with a little more spin than what I was using.
