  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Does anyone use one of these? I'm looking at getting after I played last week with a friend who had one. They are pretty cool. Anyways, just wanted to see what you guys thought.

I'm looking at the sky caddie 2.5.

Had the Skycaddie SG3, if your'e into dealing with downloading and annual fee's-then I guess theyr'e just OK. The only thing about Skycaddie that makes me watch they're commercials is- NATALIE GULBIS. grrrrrrr! Hello!

Save your money and buy a Pinseeker or similar rangefinder. And if you do, make sure it's tournament legal (if you play tourn's).

When using the Skycaddie, it does give you distance and fairly accurate. But the distance is front, middle and back of green. What matters to me, is distance to the pin itself. I sold my SG3 and bought a Bushnell Pinseeker 1500. Runs on a simple 9 volt battery and is very accurate. Off the tee, you can shoot a bunker or a tree to help your course management. Definetely a good addition to may golf bag. :eyebrow:

i play old school style and use the yardage markers, 3 foot strides and the eyes the Good Lord gave me. Distance control has never been better.

And really, it all comes down to execution. If your good enough to need to know exactly how many feet and inches it is to the pin, you shold try one of the tours. And if you need to know exactly how many feet and inches it is when you're in the deep rough and it's difficult to figure exact yardages because of your location, i would suggest some range work with the driver.

Just kdding with all that.

In all seriousness, i've heard good things about sky caddie. know several peoples who use it and hear its accurate and good.

Both the laser and the Skycaddie, will give you distance in increments of "yards"-not feet and inches.

Range work helps everyone, especially if your'e practicing the right things-not ingraining the wrong things.

I'm a hack, single digit golfer:grin: -so take it for what you will. It's your money. I myself, have found the RF much more useful than the SC. :scratchhe

Besides the fact, I don't need to download or pay annual fees.

Bball, is correct. The old, "find the marker step it off" method works well. But,unless you know you can hit a cut/fade/draw/knockdown whatever-the yardage info. is fairly useless.
As a matter of fact, for any type of distance aid-you need to beat alot of balls-so you know distances for each and every one of your clubs. Only then will knowing correct yardage payoff.

Thanks for the help. I'm not that good that I need to know the distance with in "blank" number of inches or anything. I just don't like looking for the damn sprinkler heads.

I suppose in that regard, these would definitely speed up play.

There should be a new rule in golf...if you've had a hip replacement, you must use a sky caddie. Not much worse than getting behind a group of old geezers who are looking for yardage markers from 180 out, knowing they have'nt hit a ball that far in a 25 years.

It's like asking if the pin is in front or back from 300 yards out.

I personally like the courses that put messages on the sprinkler heads at those kind of yardages. Some i've seen have read...

All you Got!

Keep Dreaming!

Are U Serious?

Ah yes. The rangefinder.

I have a Skycaddie. I love it. The only problem with most of the other range finders is that the stick has to have the prizm mirrors on the stick to make them worth it. Most courses, other than private ones, do not have these prisms.

I have been using the skycaddie for a while. The best thing about it is that you can calibrate the distances of your clubs using the "mark" option that it has. Other than that, there are not too many players that have to have the yardages taken to feet. If your that good, you should have someone figuring the yardages for you and paying them 10% of your purse.

As for the annual fee's. If you play all over the place, I can see this being an additional cost. I beleive you can only store 10 courses on the unit at a time. I keep my common courses on mine.

If you got the money, it's worth it.

other range finders
The Pinseeker, no refector needed. I just shoot the pin, that's it. I've found the RF to help in that 125 and in range. I carry 3 wedges most the time, nice to know-if you want to go by and bring it back-or deadstick it.

The only thing with laser rangefinders is that they only give you yardage to the pin. They don't give you yardage to hazards (water, bunkers, etc.). I have a Sky Caddie SG5 and have been VERY happy with it so far. I find it much more useful when playing on a course I've never been to before. Using it on my home course doesn't really help too much as I know it inside and out and it's well marked.

Perhaps some RF's will only work with shooting the pin. The pinseeker, will give you yardage to the front edge, a sand bunker, a tree or even the front or back of a water hazard. It won't give a number if you shoot water with it, but I usually pick a bank of the water and work off that. Funny stuff, because the viewfinder has 7x magnification-so it also gets used to spyglass the poohnahny in the opposing fairway. I can give you exact yardage to her tata's.:stretchgr

I've had both, and I'll continue to use the RF. As mentioned before, the SC's are nice-just don't get it done for me. If you try to use the SC, under any type of canopy (trees) alot of times you will lose connection with the satellite. :disappoin

In a State of Confusion
I like the SC for courses I've never played, the RF are OK but I have problems getting a good reading (I'm tech challanged). On my home course I can give you the exact yardage from anywhere because I've been there.

Does anyone have the Golf Logic they advertise on the golf channel.
