  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Golfers, which balls do you play?

Which balls do you play and why?

I'm still fairly new to the game and trying different balls. I have a wide range of balls in my bag :)nono: don't go there) and would like to know if any are decent, or what differences I should look for in some of them ball.

So far I like the Callaway Reds and the Hogans.

I'm the same way. Lots of balls in the bag. I just hit whatever I got.

I figure my swing needs so much work how much effect can a ball have. I'm sure it is a lot though.

It's kind of expensive to try every ball out there and I really can't tell what one ball does from the other ball. But, I bought a 15 pack of Top Flight - XL Straight. LOL...Sounds sooo bad! :hysterica I figure for $10 it wasn't too bad.

ok here goes...

the type of ball doesn't make a hill of beans to some people, 'cause they don't hit any two balls the same way...in that case, buy something realitively cheap and hit away. You probably won't keep the same ball more than a couple holes anyway. Titleist NXT is a good all around ball...

If you are any good at all, you already know what kind of ball works for you. I hit mainly Pro V1, and a couple of different Nike balls.

I'm with you Randy. "Relatively" inexpensive is ok for those new to golf. However, using ultra-cheap, low end golf balls gives you an automatic handicap on every single shot. Once you are even remotely consistent in ball striking, the difference you will feel is HUGE between a high quality ball and no-name junk. Decide if you are more comfortable the overall feel and performance of spin vs. distance balls. Those that promote spin will feel softer off the club face, though may exaggerate a heavy fade to a wicked slice. I also recommend that when you find a ball you really like and can afford, you stick with it. Switching balls every few holes will add a lot more variables than you might expect.

I also like Titleist Pro V1 (not V1x) and the discontinued Nike TS2 Spin. Nike One is an awesome ball, feels great when hit, but the ultra soft cover will drive me nuts. I like most of the high-end balls from these two companies. The Hogan Tour Deep is excellent as well. Wilson Px3, Precept Laddie, Maxfli Noodle (only Maxfli I like), and Callaway HX are all balls I would use.

To get a good price, look for blowouts of logo overruns on high-end balls, check out ebay for Mint condition experienced balls, and watch for closeouts.

I'm not good enough to worry about it. I hit whatever's in the bag. That being said, I really like Titleist.

Exactly.... I currently am hitting the Calloway Blacks... A little softer than the reds for different feel off of the club... but it really wont make that big of a difference when you are pretty new to the game

How does that work randy woods? the right balls just automatically appear in your bag?

Your kidding right? There was never a time when you swing was good and you wanted to step up your game with the right ball?

Actually, I didn't try a lot of balls...I watched a lot of really good golfers who had roughly my distance and tried those balls they hit. I did some experimenting a little about a year or so ago. What I mean is as you get better, you are able to make decisions that will work for you a lot quicker than having to hit so many while looking for the "perfect ball". I still hit some different balls from time to time to see what they are like, but not as much any more..
