I'm sure it's good bourbon but there are a ton of other awesome bourbons out there to pay that kind of money.
Saw a bottle in NYC a couple weeks ago listed for $700. People are dumb. I don't think any bourbon is worth that, but certainly not Van Winkle B.
There are plenty of BETTER bourbons for far less money. But that's ok. Keep chasing Pappy and the like and leave the good stuff alone.

Elmer T is selling on there for close to 100. If you do a little research, you can still potentially find it on shelves for 45. (Not everywhere, but it's 100 times more available than RIP)

It's funny because Pappy, etc are getting more and more expensive and impossible to find and its trickling down to the Weller (Weller 12 is pretty well gone at reasonable prices - if I'm wrong, please PM me) and I saw a bottle of Weller antique for $100 last week in a shop in Manhattan. Nuts!
At the same time there's so much good bourbon available now. 4R is back in a big way. Elijah Craig 12 is readily available. Some of the OF 1897 and the other number are really good. Colonel Taylor is back in the shelves (at least near me).
Why chase overpriced stuff? Cachet?

What's really funny is Dave took so many words right out of my mouth the other day in saying that what these asses are paying all this money for isn't even the product that made it a top bourbon and then later on a rare bourbon. I don't get why people won't just say no to prices like that and force retailers to cut that shyt out. Let it sit on the shelf

I will say that the Van Winkle bourbons are decent at their retail prices (LotB & 15yr - the 20 & 23yr are still overpriced at true retail). I bought both LotB & 15yr at approx $80/bottle last year (several actually, although I only have a partial bottle of LotB left and didn't connect for any this year)
At the aftermarket they are HUGELY overpriced and there are many bourbons out that are priced much better and are pretty readily available in most areas. Unless you can score the limited bottles at retail (and ideally without spending 24hrs in line), it's best to leave them to the people who are just hoping to show off and explore the plethora of affordable high quality bourbon that you will be able to score year round.
Personally, my go-to favorites are Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, Four Roses Small Batch & Old Scout 10yr
At the aftermarket they are HUGELY overpriced and there are many bourbons out that are priced much better and are pretty readily available in most areas.
