Tonight my wife was out of town with her girlfriends so after putting the baby to sleep, I decided it would be a perfect time for a cigar. The choice was difficult as I have several in the humi that were calling my name. The Graycliff Turbo won out over the others and I headed out onto the deck.
The appearance on this cigar is beautiful. This is a 6x60 stick, medium tan color, a few small veins present. The pre-light aroma was that of a hay/barnyard mixture, which I find to be quite pleasing. The feel was solid, no soft spots anywhere. I clipped the cap and the draw was good. Pre-light taste was that of mild tobacco. I toasted the food and got this baby going.
The burn was okay, it needed some touch ups here and there though nothing major. The smoke output was great, I even managed to get a few smoke rings going :halfgrinw. However, I was disappointed with the flavor. I have read that this is a full bodied cigar. I have to humbly disagree. I would rank it as a mild to medium. There were some cedar aromas given off by the cigar early in the first 1/3, but it disappeared for the rest of the cigar and I got no cedar flavor from this cigar. The predominant flavor was that of mild tobacco, but it was different somehow as I didn't really mind it. In other cigars I have smoked that had a mild tobacco flavor, I have not found them pleasing at all (they usually remind me of weak cigarettes).
The ash was a light gray color and, as you can see in the pics, held strong. It finally fell at around 3 inches when the dogs bumped the porch swing on their way to bark at a car :squinteye. I theorize it may have gone much longer, I was hoping I could get a Nub like photo of the Greycliff standing on its ash :cjump:, but it was not meant to be. The mild tobacco flavor continued into the second 1/3, though I got what I can only describe as a floral note a few times. It was pleasant, but didn't continue which I'd have enjoyed.
I don't have pics for the rest of the smoke because my camera's battery ran dead
. Overall it was a pleasant smoke, but not one I really enjoyed...if that makes sense. The mild tobacco flavor was better in this cigar than in any others I've had. That said, it's not what I was expecting and it's not really my cup o' tea. I prefer a more medium-full/full cigar and for the price ($10-12) I'd certainly consider getting something else. That's it for now, hope you enjoyed the review and the pics (I was rather inspired by r3db4r0n's nice pics in his reviews).
