Size: 5.62 X 46
Wrapper: Nicaragua
Binder: Ecuador Connecticut
Filler: Nicaragua
Body: Medium-Full
Strength: Medium-Full
Smoke Time: 1.25 to 1.5 Hours
Construction:
Dark milk chocolate wrapper, slightly veiny with a double cap. Jim's cigar had an ugly spot on the wrapper, but nothing that would be suspect of causing burn issues.
First Third:
Right off the bat you get an amazing amount of espresso, there is a hint of chocolate subtlety sitting in the background. Retrohale is kicking and has a slight spice to it.
As you get into the cigar towards the inch mark, the retrohale goes from slightly harsh to super smooth. The expresso is still heavy and the chocolate pics up. Out of nowhere a big bucket of cream seems to drench the cigar. You get it in both the flavor and the texture of the smoke.
Second Third:
Right at the start of this third caramel is fiercely added. It blends very nicely with the creamy espresso and chocolate. The cigar is a medium body and a medium strength. The finish lasts forever. The cream is so intense at this point that I can't recall ever smoking a creamier one.
At this point I am inclined to say that the two cigars we had for this review came out of some very yellowed cellophane. This indication of age causes us to wonder if these cigars would be this smooth, complex and tasty when fresh.
Final Third:
The caramel is muted now, and the coffee and cream take center stage. The retrohale presents a nice nutmeg spice to the taste buds and is highly enjoyable. towards the end of this third a flavor reminiscent of toasted vanilla beans comes in. Hard to describe any better than that. Even down to the nub the smoke stays cool and tasty. Would these flavors be the same in a larger vitola? Who knows?
Last Thoughts:
I liked this cigar a lot. In fact I loved it. I have it as one of my favorites, simply because there were so many changes and they were exactly the kind of flavors my palate desires. I have expressed my lack of surety on how these cigars would be fresh, but for these prices I wouldn't be scared to find out. Paired with a good medium roast coffee and the combination was mind blowing!
