Finally a warm and sunny day here in good ol' Vol Country, and seemed like a good day for a smoke and a review.
Hammer+Sickle Moscow City
Size: 6x52 Toro
Blend: Dominican/Nicaraguan ligero, CBL maduro wrapper
MSRP: $10.00
According to many sources, only 1000 boxes of this cigar were released, 10 to a box, in an absolutely beautiful black crystal box. I have also discovered these were blended and rolled by Henrik Kelner (someone correct me if I'm mistaken)

Appearance:
Connecticut Broadleaf is far and away my favorite wrapper, and this is a perfect example of it. Nice oily sheen, definitely some heft in the hand, with a very Soviet-esque red and silver foil band. The stick smells strongly of barnyard and dark chocolate. Easy cut, and cold draw offered up the same dark chocolate notes with a twinge of espresso bite.
1st Third:
Had to fight a little wind to get this bad boy going, but once it did, I was hit with a blast of spice, with rich notes of coffee and leather. I botched the cut a bit, so the initial burn was a bit funky, but once I clipped a little more we were off to the races. The spice subsided a bit after the first 10 puffs of so, and blended well with the other flavors. The ash on this stick is VERY dark gray, almost black. Retrohale leaves me the taste of hickory charcoal. Oddly, the core of the ash is almost pure white.
2nd Third:
Smoke output has increased steadily since the start, and is billowing in clouds now. Getting a nice seared steak flavor, and is leaving a smoky savory-ness on the back of the tongue.
Of course a mug shot for posterity
At the 1/2 I'm still getting loads of flavor with just a hint of spice to round things out nicely. The strength is starting to creep on me a bit. Burn and draw is still perfect. I've finally been able to place the aftertase: it reminds me of a good peaty single malt scotch.
3rd Third:
Spice is beginning to build up again, continuing with massive amounts of smoke. I am in complete Broadleaf heaven at this point. Near the last 1.5", a dark chocolate sweetness has come in as a little treat at the end. Didn't get hot until less than 1", and I was easily able to nub it.
Final Thoughts: This is an amazingly complex and well-rounded cigar that burns nice and slow for plenty of enjoyment. Definitely full-flavored, with a medium-full strength to back it up. This will easily be in my top 10 of the year. My advice: Get you some while they last. (call Paul at Silo Cigars here in Knoxville, I believe he's still got a couple boxes, as well as some nice aged Tats for you PJ fans).
Score: 93
Smoking Time: 2:00
Thanks reading guys! Enjoy the daylight savings time!
