  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hard to Believe Manufacturer Claims

On Episode 11 of The Cigar Alliance Podcast, I brought up the issue of manufacturer claims that are hard to believe. For instance, I’ve heard several manufacturers claim that their new cigar line is actually a cigar that they have been making for themselves to smoke as a “private blend” for quite some time. Then, the story goes that after several visitors/friends tried the blend, they convinced the manufacturer to market it to the public because it is so good. In this case, I can’t help but wonder why a manufacturer/blender wouldn’t market the blend they like to smoke for themselves before they began marketing any of their other lines. In fact, the way I see it, it’s like saying, “I didn’t really like any of the blends we’ve been selling, so I had my own private blend made just for me...then I decided to sell it too!”

Anyway, the question is: Are there any manufacturer claims/marketing ploys that you find very hard to believe?

I’d also like to hear a defense for the example I cited. I’ll discuss the responses on Episode 12, which comes out on January 24th.

I don't quite think that I would go quite so far, ns, but I do believe that this specific instance is absolutely a marketing gimmick.

If you want to look at production lines that bear the same trademark of "personal smokes for public consumption", take a look at Tatuaje. Pete (to my knowledge) has always claimed that he simply blends what he likes and that the public can choose to buy them or not. It's especially notable for his Black Label cigars, which are almost impossible to get.

I heard that about the la flor lanceros. I heard that the were lg's smoke, and some of his friends convinced him to share them with the public. Personally, I think its not one of his better smokes, so I dont care, but who even knows if this is true, thats just what Ive heard through the grapevine!
