  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I picked up a Caliber 4R Hygrometer. Looks great. However it only let's you calibrate up/down 6%. Mine is reading further off than that (I have two other hygrometers in the bag with the salt solution. They both read 75) im stumped. Anyone have any insight on this?

Thanks

I have 2 of the Caliber 4R's. I had to adjust both of them slightly. I used the boveda calibration packs. Mine only had to be adjusted 3% and 4%. Are you using the salt test or calibration packs? Are you using some type of ziplock bag to test them in? I let mine sit in the bags/kits for 48 hours undisturbed prior to making any adjustments as well. Also, check to make sure they they are both set on the factory default of 0% adjustment. Other than that, I've got nothing. Hopefully you get it figured out.

I know you recently got the CC-300 as well. Just FYI, the caliber 4R won't fit in the same hole as the hygro that comes in the drawer (speaking from experience of course). I was a little disappointed at first, but just threw the 4R in the other drawer. I put the second one in a desktop humi that is being seasoned for future storage needs. Overall, I'm pleased with them.

I used the salt test, and only let it sit about 24hrs in a ziplock. I'll just reset it to factory calibration. And restart my salt test as well. Maybe I reacted too quickly. It's really has me puzzled why the adjustments were so limited.

I also wasn't sure if I was going to swap it out for the analog. But now I'm sure I'm not lol. Thanks for the help. I hope it works, because I destroyed the box while opening it :banghead:

For some reason i get much better results when i use a mason jar instead of a ziploc. I was all over the place everytime i did the salt test in a ziploc. Now i use a boveda (any one) in a small mason jar and I get repeatable results everytime.
I'm going to try it this way. I'm going to go to my B&M and grab some boveda packs. I need to remove the human error factor here.

So, by using the glass snap top Tupperware. I found the 4R to be perfectly calibrated after 48hrs. Thanks for that tip. I'll never use a ziplock again. I recalibrated all my hygros after this.
