  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Herf etiquette?

Should I bring non-Oliva cigars to an Oliva event?

On April 7th I'm going to a "Steak n' Smokes" event at my local B & M, with a rep from Oliva handing out cigars and deals on Olivas.
My question is this: is it considered poor etiquette for me to bring along non-Oliva (specifically Tats) cigars to share? Also, is it bad etiquette to smoke something other than the cigar handed out at the event?

I ask because this will be my first cigar event, also with people I've never met, and I don't wanna be "that" guy commiting the party foul.

Any advice appreciated!

CLARIFICATION: I do plan to smoke the Oliva, but I'm bringing a friend who's never had a cigar before. Depending on the size of the cigar, I may want to give him something smaller to try.

I have never been to an cigar event but have been to other job related trade show events in the past. the event is for oliva so i would think that at minimum you should start your evening with oliva brand and wait awhile feel out the room then decide if you should hand out tats. just my .02 cents

Smoke what you like. Take the band off if you want to keep what you are smoking under the radar. I go to an event every single Thursday that typically features one MFGs cigars and everyone smokes what they want. Just don't bad mouth the guy that's there! Cigar smoking is supposed to be a relaxing habit - don't worry so much. :)

All esle fails - watch the crowd and follow along. Can't lose that way. Enjoy it!

I have never brought sticks to an event, but I have to been to plenty where I just buy what I want to smoke from the B&M while there and have never worried about the brand.

Dude... Smoke what YOU like and you shouldn't care what Oliva says. You should purchase at least one of there deals i.e. buy 3 get 1. It would not be cool if you went in there and smoked you shit and then left, lol!

Everything Patrick said, but you should be buying some sticks from the b&m at the least. You don't have to buy Oliva sticks(they are good sticks I dunno why you wouldn't), but you should support the b&m.

Typically what I do at "Cigar Company Events", I purchase something from the B&M. If I don't like what the company hosting is handing out or selling (IE:RP SHite), i purcahse something that I enjoy, pull the band and enjoy the cigar. To me, it is about supporting the B&M, not the cigar company hosting the event.

Hell I smoked a Tat at an Oliva event last year.

I brought Oliva Vs to a "Host a Detroit BOTL" herf a while back.... They didn't hold a candle to what PLUSH, Brooks and Tony from Detroit were passin out... But, back on topic, I voted "spread the love".

I walked in to a SanCristobal Event in Newport, and the cheapest SC they had was $20...So I bought an Oliva for $11:shame: and poured my self a huge glass of thier scotch, and enjoyed myself. If they wanted me to buy an SC they wouldn't have priced them like an OPUS. But them again I am not a role model when it comes to etiquette.

I totally agree with Bill 100% on the topic.

well if you plan on busting out a 50 cab of el triumphs and passing em out i dont think anybody would mind.
etiquette is relative to what you exactly intend on doing.

As others have suggested smoking is supposed to be a relaxing habit so unless for some reason you get the feeling that the event goers are going to be hostile to you if you smoke something other than an Oliva, you may as well smoke what you enjoy!

Also keep in mind that other than the friend you're bringing to this event you don't expect to see anyone there you know, if you show up and this turns out to be the case then you could probably smoke what ever you want without burning any bridges. Besides if a person were to take offense to something THAT mundane, would you really want to be associated with them anyways? lol
