It bears the Tobocationist Association of America logo and its year of production on its band. It is limited production. People all rave about it. It is the Tatuaje TAA 2014. All Hype? Rarity? this dog got hit by brother @NIZZLE with that rare smoke and decided to nub it to figure out how it scores on HERF, or TURD.
It has a rather rigid box press. Its wrapper is a nice uniform chocolate brown with no veins whatsoever and the only discernable lines being the leaf itself. The construction looks very well made.
To the nose, that's a subtil aroma of bread dough. The closed foot doesn't have a different aroma. It was decided to light this stogie with the three matches prior to cut method, so there's no pre-draw comments to be made.
Lightning was tricky, as it always is with a closed foot without cutting the cigar to puff and expose heat to the inside. But it wasn't hard, lighted rather well.
The cutting was done with a double guillotine and was super precise and effective. No issues whatsoever to cut this stick. That's always good.
The first draw revealed flavors of sour leather, espresso and some spices.
The first third had flavors of coffee and campfire. Campfire odor isn't a flavour this dog expected to experience on any cigars and that in itself was special. The finish was also this campfire flavour.
During the first third, the flavors evolved to what I would described as the non-sweet part of a chocolate brownie mixed with campfire.
The ashes were a pale grey and very condensed. A good sign on the quality of the construction. We'll see later while the cigar burns that same ash turn somewhat beige, which seems to only happen on well made aged tobacco. The ash will remain together and drop at every thirds.
The burn wasn't super straight at first, but didn't require adjustment. Before the second third, it was back to being very straight. Cigars that behave like that are always fun to smoke. Sometimes we could hear small cracking noises from the burn...
The second third had still the brownie flavours, but less sweetness and mixed with bread dough. It became creamier and the finish turned to be a bit more like bread dough or crackers.
The stick produces a good amount of smoke that is very malleable and making smoke rings is an easy task with it. The grey smoke climbs slowly. Retrohaling is surprisingly smoot and reveal some floral notes.
The third third has vey less of the brownie flavors and revealed more cracker or bread flavours, while the finish evolved to mainly crackers, and is even longer than it was.
Oddly, the cigar seemed to expand a little bit near the nub. Essentially, the box pressed "unpressed" at that point, and the cigar regained a rounder form, cracking the wrapper and binder at about one inch lenght. However, the cigar kept its integrity, demonstrating the quality of construction regardless.
The cigar had been kept in controlled humidity for over a month after being shipped with a large boveda and staying at brother NIZZLE for quite some time already, and was paired with a japanese whiskey, the Hibiki 12. While the pairing was excellent, its flavors almost were overpowering the nuances of the TAA 2014.
This cigar is very, very smooth and ranks easily in the top five favourite smokes for this dog. The subtelty and evolution of flavors are interesting without requiring much attention. Therefore, amazing to smoke at any gathering.
