After knocking out a few hours of work I decided to reward myself and stop by the shop for a smoke. It took me about 10 seconds in the humidor and this sexy little short corona caught my eye. Being a nice day I decided to sit out front and do a little people watching while I smoked. I have smoked a few of the Toro and the Lonsdale and have had the pleasure of smoking several of the fresh rolls from Willy at different events. In talking with Willy he felt the blend really shines in the Short Corona, so I decided it was time to try it out.
Pre-light the Herrera Esteli is a light golden brown with very few veins. In fact, the cigar looks almost flawless in its construction. Pre-light draw is good with hints of earth, cedar and some spice.

First third, the cigar is smoking great, producing just the right amount of smoke and a nice even burning ash. Flavor is just over medium bodied and strength is a solid medium. Hints of earth and a slightly creamy flavor, but a spice and cedar burn to the retrohale.

As I get in the second third, the flavor still has the earthiness to it with some cedar and spice. The creaminess has faded to the background. This is definitely a complex cigar and very enjoyable. Starting to think I should have gone with the bigger size!

Finishing the cigar, I just didnt want to put it down. It was enjoyable start to finish. Complex, without being a powerhouse cigar. I could enjoy it in the morning and yet it has enough strength for me to be enjoyed at night after a big meal. As I sat outside I had several people at the table comment on the pleasant aroma the cigar.
I am a big fan of Nicaraguan cigars, but have found a lot of them can be a bit "in your face" with pepper blasts. To me, the Herrera Esteli is a solid balance of strength and flavor. I highly recommend this cigar for all smokers to try out!
