  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

any of you remember the Little Havana Cutter?

These were extremely popular back when I first went into the cigar accessory business. I sold hundreds on a couple of group buys. The Little Havanas were the most popular cheap cutter. A lot of guys bought multiples of these rather than spend the $ on a Xikar. They cut your cigar just fine, and what made them unique was the spring action opening of the cutter. It was cool, it was cheap, and it worked. Unfortunately, the manufacturer discontinued the cutter because they had other knife type products that were more profitable.

Anyway, I have finally suceeded in getting a knockoff of the Little Havana cigar cutter. I tested it up against the original, and its a close call. I also tested it against my Xikar Cutter, same deal, close call. I also put it up against my Palio. Now we all know that the Palio is #1, and a cheapo cutter doesnt have the same feel as the Palio, but this little cheap cutter does the job.

I guess I should compare it to other cheap cutters, and for a cheap cutter, it does a damned good job. Its also a little unique with the spring action opening. You will also notice that it cuts a much larger ring gauge than the original.

Overall, for $3.99, you could do a lot worse.

I still have one in my drawer of accessories. They are a good cutter for as cheap as they are. I probably used mine 15 to 20 times before my Palio showed up. I haven't used it since but have it in case a backup is ever needed.

Making your's fit a bigger ring gauge is a great idea Ron. That was probably my only complaint about the Havana was that a robusto was almost to big for it.

you took one to Nicaragua... I remember that thing.
I only cut 2 or 3 cigars in Nicaragua (the rest I just cut with my thumb nail as Pete instructed) But that thing is sweet! Thin and it works!

IIRC these came free on the backside of a 3 finger expandable cigar case. That was my first little travel humidor. The cutter worked well but would clog from time to time & the spring action didn't work perfectly. Also, it really only worked well for 50rg & less. Its nice to see that you've enlarged its girth. Is it still as thin? I know one of the benefits was that this thing could sit in your pocket & not be uncomfortable at all.
Nice work, Ron!
