  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

    Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I hate to be the guy with the oh what cutter thread, but I am. Looking at the davidoff double blade cutters, want something smaller than say the Xikar Xi8. I already have an Xi2 and an exotic Xi3 cutter. Wondering if the davidoff is worth the coin, or what is the difference in it and the Zino. Or even something this style on the smaller side that is well liked. I dunno I give up, asking for help haha

In starting this thread you are realizing two things:
1. You are paying for the name mostly with a Davidoff or Zino cutter
2. Most people here are going to tell you not to waste your money because of #1
Let me clarify the 300 Zino is out... I'm talking about the 30 Zino vs the 300 davidoff, don't care for davidoff in general so I'm looking for something of similar quality, that isn't a 4 dollar plastic one haha

I like the $15 cuban crafters perfect cutter, works well for me and it also carries a lifetime warranty

This! I still use my free drew estate perfect cutters that you get from events and they get amazing, just as good. I love them. I have my xikar and my colibri, all are great and code peanuts to that.

I might have a few nice ones but end up using the drew estate ones more often than not. But I do like the palio better than the Xikar by far.

I use my Xikar ZX slim cutter more than anything else. Cuban Crafters cutters are excellent as well, I have a slim one and the DE version.

Yep. Cuban Crafters cutters are great. Solid feel and sharp blades. And if you get one with the metal backing you never have to worry about taking too deep of a cut.

I can't say enough good things about these cutters. They are solid as hell, plus...you can take them apart to clean (I use steel wool) and sharpen (a little more effort, but worth it).

I still use my Xikars for some things (a dickman cut perhaps) but the one Mike mentioned is my go-to as well.
@boltman

I used to be a Xicar guy but this replaced it. It's the metal backing that is so cool. You can take a cut that is so small it looks like a punch cut. They pass them out if you take a tour through the Hoya De Nicaragua factory. I'll bet @BradMc , @Spenny , @Eric , @Smoqman , @Cigar Jedi have one in their inventory.

Fwiw I have the $30ish Zino cutter. Blades are German steel, well sharpened and polished. It may be plastic handles, but I only care about the blades. For the life of me, I don't understand why blade steel for cigar cutters hasn't been improved upon. Knife steel has made leaps and bounds in durability and edge retention, but even "nice" cutters still use 440C like its something special. If someone produced a double guillotine with CPM S90V or CTS 204P, that would be worth some coin, but I don't give a tinkers damn about lacquer, zebra wood, or titanium handles. I do see Zino cutters on fleabay for a reasonable price every once in a while. *rant over
