  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Holy Freakin' Golf Course!

holy crap! That doens't look like much fun from the back tees. 501 yd par 4?!?! 503 yard par 4?!?!

I was kinda thinking this is a hard pan links style course, but in looking at the photos, it looks none too easy. Some of those fairway bunkers looked kinda treacherous on a short 400 yard par 4, add another 100 yards to that and you've got real trouble.

My best, and i mean very best, driver and 3 wood will get me bout 560 yards...i'd still be 100 out on some of those par 5s.

CRAZY!

A very large percentage of the golfing public should never play from the blacks on this course or any course for that matter. If I could still hit a driver/3 wood 560, my old ass would need GPS to keep track of the ball, I sure as hell can't see that far any more.

Looks like a heck of a course Wade. I wouldn't mind taking that baby on.

I've been telling myself for a few months now that the next course i play where they hold a pga tourney i'm going to play from the tips so i can see how i'd do. In the spirit of the Golf Digest What Would You Shoot? deal. It may be Firestone up in Akron.

But i definitely wouldn't do it at Erin Hills...7800+ is crazy long.

I played Firestone a couple of years ago, very demanding course. The TPC course here in Scottsdale keeps the course in Pro condition for about a week after the PHX Open and that can be a very humbling experience. I try to do it every year, 102 the first time I played those conditions, I lost a ball that couldn't have been 5 feet off the fairway.

We also have Whistling Straights near the Milwaukee/Sheboygan area, there's four courses in that complex, the Black Wolf Run River course held a Womens US Open a good number of years back and the Straights course held the Mens PGA Championship a couple years back. I've played both, both several times and once from the tips, the Straights course was a bitch. I'd love to play Erin from the tips, I don't have the game for it, but I'd love to abuse myself that way just to see.

I couldn't even get on in 2 on 4 of those holes and I've hit a good half dozen over 350 in my last 2 rounds. One round was wind aided. That course is ridiculous. I wonder what the slope is like on those holes?
