  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Well today is brew day for the beer that receives 17oz of fivedifferent kinds of hops. This is a standard 5 gallon batch.

Top to bottom. Hops used Centennial, Columbus, Simcoe, Chinook, and Warrior.

Wort boiled for 90 min.

Mini mash hops - Chinook
90 min boil hops - Chinook and Warrior
45 min left boil - Simcoe
30min left boil - Columbus
hops at flame out (aroma) - Centennial and Simcoe
the last big bag is 7 oz of dry hops(aroma) - Simcoe, Columbus, and Centennial

Anyone else a hop head? When I was weighing them out for their time marks this morning my wife said it looked like I was dividing up pot.

Well I just tasted a prefermentation sample from out of the pipette to test with my refractometer. I have to repeat the title. Holy hops! I hit 1.074 OG and it should get down around 1.014 according to the recipe. That leaves the beer at about 7.8%ABV I suspect mine might go a tad lower than 1.014 but we'll see.
