  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I spent some time out in the garage today, splitting a few logs and stacking up a firewood stash inside, since there's more rain forecast for next week. When I finished that, I decided to fabricate a quick cigar holder from a some metal I had laying around. I bent a small rod into a V-shape and ran a wire brush over it. Then I looked through my late Father's tool box and found a round, flat washer that has probably been in there for 30 years or more. I welded the rod onto the washer and made this holder.

I then sprayed the piece with bronze Hammered Finish paint.

I let the piece dry for a couple of hours and decided to put it to the test. The whole point of the project was to make something practical that would hold the cigar without undue stress or pressure. This quickie does just that. It held everything from 4.13 x 29 CC to a 64 ring NUB. The Tatuaje Verocru just made a better model...

The whole process, less the drying time, took less than 10 minutes. I wasn't as careful or picky about the welding as I usually try to be. I just threw it together to see if it would work, and I wanted to incorporate a piece of my Father's history in the project. I hope to use this for many days, weeks, months and hopefully, years. My late Father's birthday is in two weeks - I now have just one more item to remind me of Him. He wasn't a cigar smoker, and I don't think he would wholeheartedly approve of my new passion, but he would understand.

*NO CIGARS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS ITEM

Nice work! It's cool that you were able to incorporate something from his old toolbox into something you will use regularly.

Thanks for looking and for all the comments! It's worked great so far! No more wind blowing my sticks off the patio table! Not that I ever set 'em down for very long anyway...

that is a very cool idea took a little time to fab up the right angle on the fork to keep the balance. I have been prowling around work looking for ideas for a stogie holder but nothing has come to me yet.
