  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

How accurate are these things?

i have had about 9 sensors over the past 10 years. Accuracy has been mixed. anywhere from perfect to 9% off. no big deal. just test them with a Boveda, write the difference on a piece of white bandage tape, and stick the tape on the home unit.

If the remote units are anything like what I have they range from right on to up to 3% or more off. Test and mark the difference, only way to go with something like this. Someday someone will make one where you can self-calibrate the remote units.

Thanks guys I can't find boveda's here and I've used the salt test with mixed results does any one know a more scientific mode of conducting the salt test some thing like to 10grams of salt add 1cc of water or the like?

i use a large amt of salt. and just add a little water. i always make sure that there is a little bit of dry salt left in the mix.

Thanks Ron salt tested the unit and it read 77%RH after 10 hours so I guess its pretty accurate... unfortunately I didn't read your post before testing it so all the salt in my bottle cap was damp but I guess the over all result didn't turn out all that bad. Thank you guys for all the input.

Bro's I have a large mulit sensor setup up for mine, I have tested mine several times over the years. I have found mine are spot on. They are the best damn hydro setup around. I have one in my wineador and one in my desktop. And I have a spare senor I am not really using only because It was bought at radio shack and it is off a couple of points, but I honestly don't really need it since I'm down to just one desktop. I love this setup!!

Sorry, after looking at the unit mine is a different model, mine is a weather unit. I have 3 wireless senors too.

I've used a similar setup, also Oregon Scientific, with one remote monitor I just move around. I've tested it against a Boveda and both the remote and the base were 1% off. It's lasted for over four years and worked flawlessly.

I've found the same thing Ron, and do the same with the tape, works perfect.

In addition, I did e-mail the Boveda pack company and asked what they felt the accuracy of their product was, the e-mails are below:

I'm in the midst of calibrating my hygrometers and for some reason just don't like the salt tests. In the past, I've bought a Boveda pack and placed it in a glass airtight container with my hygrometers. Of course any discrepancy in RH from the Boveda pack I adjust for. My question of course is, to within what can I assume that the Boveda packs are accurate? Currently I'm using the 69% pack.

Thanks,
