  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

How to sharpen a V cutter blade?

I have been using the cheap $6 v cutter from my B&M. I'll step up to an XiKAR at some point but how are you all sharpening them?

After a month or 2 the cheap ones get dull and rip more than cut. I just buy a new one but I want to be able to sharpen the xikar when I buy one.

Thanks

Xikar cutters have a lifetime warranty, so you can send it back to them if it ever goes dull. I have had two Xikar cutters for quite a few years now and they both still work great, although they are not the V cuts.

The cheapos are just that, much better blades in the xikars, palios, ect. I had cut hundreds of cigars in the shop with my xikar before I lost it and it was always a good cut. The most it ever needed was a good cleaning every now and then. And like stated if it goes dull, just send it back an they will fix/replace it.

Just buy another $6 vcutter.
A dull vcutter will crush the fire out of the heard of a cigar.

or save up for a Xikar. The Xikar VCutter works great too btw

Lots of times, the blades aren't really dull, they are just gunked up. You should periodically clean the cutting edges with a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol. Even a cheapo cutter, if it is decent to start with, can last for years, if it is cleaned regularly.

Actually the Wolf brand is a German company that Xikar distributes in the US.

I was told by three people a few days ago, that they don't have the same warranty as a Xikar. The Eb@y guy may be using that as a gimmick to get you to buy them.

Though, I have used a Wolf cutter and they are a good brand.

I bought a Wolf v-cutter and returned it. The shape simply didn't make a deep enough notch on the cigars that I normally smoke. If you are thinking of getting one, I suggest that you try it out on one or some of your regulars before buying. The Xikar does not have that problem.
