  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Alright guys so I got a Hydra in my cabinet now...since I was having a hard time keeping constant humidity with beads due to a seal issue I was unable to fully rectify. The hydra is pretty sweet. A couple questions for any brothers that currently use them....

Mine seems to cycle often...I've noticed it cycles on every couple minutes for about 15 seconds. Is that normal, or is it because my seal isn't 100 percent on my cabinet? My RH is pretty rock solid at about 64 percent right now, it just cycles a lot. Not a problem though, just wondering if that's going to burn the unit out.

Also, I'm wondering how long does one cartridge last? I bought an extra cartridge, but I figure they probably last at least 6 months or so.

Thanks!

When ever the humidity drops below what the meter reads it runs. Mine is great!!! Was having issues with my old humidifier, but this works great!!! I think it last's about 6 months til you need to change it!!!

I added some thin weatherstripping to the inner portion of the door where I can see light on the flashlight test, but then the outer portion doesn't close right. I then adjust the hinges out a little so that the door closes and then there's a small gap all over again. I must have spent 4 or 5 hours adjusting the damn thing and have now given up permanently.

Well the Hydra kicks the humidity right back up pretty quickly, I think it just runs a little more often due to the seal issue. Ah well.

its turning on and off a lot because of the seal.

the more it runs, the shorter its life will be. remember that this size unit was designed for a desktop.

cartridge is supposed to be good for about 6 refillings

The box it comes in says they are good for a cabinet up to 8 cubic feet in size, which is right where I land. I can't believe these are made for a desktop, seems overkill for a desktop.

When the original cigar oasis was introduced, it was advertised as for a desktop. I don't mean a small desktop, but something that might hold a 100 or 200 cigars. I used them in a couple of arlin liss desktops.

As cabinet humidors started gaining popularity, CO changed their advertised claims of performance. All of a sudden, the CO was good for a large cabinet, but meanwhile, the design remained the same.

Same deal on the hydra. Made for a big desktop

not that it cant be used, but its gotta work many times harder than what was originally planned for. i figure if its turning on 4 or 5 times per hour, vs 1 time a day if it was in a good quality desktop, the rate of failure or problems is many times more.
