  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hey all,

Ok I have a desktop humidor and a tuperidor each have a hygrometer inside. The 2 hygrometers I have are a digital rectangular one that came with my humidor and a Brigham Slim Digital. The one that came with the hygrometer is off on it's RH reading by 5% so it is currently reading a 61 so it is actually 66% which is beautiful for me as I know the reading.

Now the Brigham won't stay she cuts out and the display fades away to a blank screen. I figured it was the battery so I replaced and it turns on for a bit and gives me the same crap. So my assumption is it's crap and needs to be returned as I bought it at my local B&M on the weekend.

Now the question I have is should I stick with another Brigham or should I go with the round Xikar they have there. To further the question is the Xikar any good and is it reliable. Also is there any other makes I should try going for. Let me know. I know RH is rock solid but I still don't like not having one in there for safety and reassurance.

Thanks all,
JM

That's what I plan on doing but I am one of those ppl who buys something and if it doesn't work right the first time I don't go back to it if I return it. That's why I was curious about the Xikar. Brigham has left a bad taste in my mouth now.

I have both Xikar and Hygroset II hygrometers. The first four that I bought were Xikars. 2 of them work great and the other 2 had issues when I went to calibrate them. Basically when I pushed the calibration button they would reset to 75% (as they should) and then go to 73% on the next refresh cycle. I used a ziplock bag during the calibration process and pushed the calibrate button through the bag. In other words the RH in the bag should have stayed the same because I did not open it but the hygrometers still lost 2%. 2 of them did this and the other 2 stayed at 75%.

At this point I lost confidence that I was going to get an accurate reading so the next time I needed a hygrometer I bought a couple of Hygroset II's. These were a bit harder to calibrate because you have to turn the little nob to adjust the reading and it was not really possible to do through the plastic bag however I am much happier with them because I trust the reading.

Long story short......My vote is for the Hygroset II

That is what I have heard but I haven't been able to find them anywhere. I have searched high and low I can't seem to find a B&M that carries it.
Can you go online?
I can but the big issue is the shipping usually costs me roughly $15-20 to come to Canada so I'm paying double pretty much.
I can fix that for you ;)

Grab a hygroset off of c-bid... You can grab them there for $13 all day long...

You know where to have it shipped...

When I see you in 4 weeks... I'll bring it with me...

Lol I will keep that in mind. I want to return an get a refund first. If they only exchange then I will suck it up and just go with the Xikar. Now if they refund Dave you'll be getting a package lol.

I can't thank you enough again.

Next thought lol. When I calibrate mine I use a sure seal Tupperware container I've thought about the fact that I will lose humidity if I don't move quick enough. Does te bag work well for you Rupe.
