I've been seeing ice molds for shot glasses for some time & pulled the trigger recently on a Cool Shooter Ice Shot glass. I found it at a store for $10, I've seen them on line a little cheaper as well.
If you haven't seen them, it's a silicone mold for shot glasses you fill with water & freeze, then pop them out & you have shot glasses made of ice.
I just used my regular filtered water so they came out kind of cloudy, but you could boil the water once or twice first to give the ice more clarity.
Popping them out of the molds took a little effort, but they all came out intact. I put them back in the freezer for a few after freeing them to ensure they didn't get soft during the extraction.
Tried it with some vodka; they worked pretty well and kept everything very chilly as you might imagine. They did melt pretty quickly though, but it's still 80 at 10pm as I post this. I expect at lower temps they would melt slower, but I would really hesitate to use them inside even at cool room temp, esp at a party.
Over all pretty cool as a novelty, but I'm hard pressed to see me using them very regularly.
