  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So it's a Jobey 2SM but I'm looking more for either an age or even a value. It's funny because yesterday I was just thinking about pipes and today my mother found my father's old pipe from at least 30-35 years ago. According to her it was his only pipe but he smoked with my great uncle who has a large collection so he may of used his as well. IMG_0890.JPG IMG_0891.JPG

Thanks! I think I'll try restoring it to smoke it. The outside finish looks and feels smooth as can be. The inside top of the bowl seems to of lost some of the black coating but otherwise looks okay shining a light to the bottom. The stem barely has any teeth marks or any other scratches.

Okay. But I still need to clean it I'd imagine. I was going to try that salt method I was reading about. It's nothing for this weekend but maybe next weekend when I get some things together. May just go by my great uncle and see what he thinks since I know he has all of his pipes and tools still, just hasn't smoked them in at least a decade.

Nice looking pipe. Very cool that it was your dad's.
I was hoping my mom would come across my dad's pipes, but evidently he got rid of them when he stopped smoking in the late 80's.

Awh :( I was talking to my father in the truck today and he said he has other pipes somewhere in the house but they may be in the storage space in the basement. If not my great uncle definitely has pipes but I think they're just like basic pipes. Still good to use, just nothing fancy. But I know they would take much more cleaning as they were constantly used for at least 40 years. Hell my uncle might still have his if he didn't throw them out. Apparently the men in my family are pipe smokers haha

So that's the inside of the bowl there. I used a pipe cleaner to just scrape a little around but I don't think it needs to be reamed. The only thing I'm unsure of is the opening at the bottom. Is it very caked over or is it supposed to that small of a hole? I was going to salt/vodka clean the bowl today but not sure if it needs to be reamed or not.IMG_0932.JPG

Mid to Late 70s Jobey.
take it to a pipe shop for stem buffing, lightly ream the bowl, and smoke it.
use some good scotch on a pipe cleaner to cleanse the bit and shank.....
draw hole in the bottom looks typical of the era,no prob...........
those sold for $45 to $60 in the day...........I had 2 or 3 of them....

Not even been 24 hours yet and it's looked like that since about 3 hours in. I gotta say the salt smells fantastic.

Edit: No sense in adding another post. I cleaned out the bowl completely. It has a nice black sheen to it now. The stem finally came lose and I was able to get a pipe cleaner down it until it wasn't coming out black. All in all it just needs a polishing up but right now I'm okay with skipping that.
