Imperial Tobacco to buy Altadis

Altadis is being sold to Imperial Tobacco for maybe $17 or $18 Billion. Didn't see any discussion on it thus far. Altadis owns tons of domestic brands along with 50% of Habanos S.A.(I think).
What do you think will become of this little merger?

from what I hear, they're planning to chop up and sell off the company piece by piece.

I thought there were multiple bids on the table and things were at a stand still at the moment. Personally I'm not too concerned and figure that most likely parts of the company will be sold off.

The only "warning" siren that is going off in my head is the possibility of them losing their distribution rights to Cuban cigars....and the reason THAT would suck is because they own so many of those same brand names in U.S. market cigars. If/when the embargo is lifted, those brands wouldn't have much barrier-to-entry in our market since there wouldn't be any trademark issues to resolve (unlike the ones owned by General Cigar).

It's all corporate stuff; 99&#37; of it is completely disinteresting to me.

It'll be interesting to see what they do with the company, that's for sure.
