Dirt might have been cheaper but I chose hydroponic because:

1. Faster growth of plants.
2. Cleaner for inside use (dogs and kids make messes)
3. Less chance of getting diseased plants.

This is what I've decided to grow. I'll update everyone in a week on the progress. The two things in the water are a heater and a bubbler. The bubbler helps the roots get oxygen and since I can't keep the room as warm as I like I figured keeping the water underneath at 78 degrees would work as well.

1. Mint
2. Leaf Lettuce
3. Rosemary
4. Spinach
5. Basil
6. Sage
7. Italian Parsley
8. Oregano
9. Tarragon
10. Thyme
11. Chives

Did you germinate the seeds first.I was watching an infomercial and they
had a garden like this if I see it again I might buy it.I did one like yours but I ran it a little differnt.I used plastic strawberry containers with rockwool.
I ran wooden rod across it lenth wise I also had it lower down in the bucket.

I know quite a bit about hyrdoponics if you need any help. Granted this was from about 8 years ago when I was in college and I wasn't growing food additives but....... what works for one should work for another.
