  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Cuba Aliados will have a new "Limited Edition" torpedo available in their Miami line. I don't have too much information on the actual cigar, and couldn't find anything on the web as of yet, either. So I do not know if it is different in any way from the rest of the Miami line.

The belicoso has a oily, veiny, dark brown wrapper. The construction is very good, and the cigar has an extended cap. Much longer than belicosos usually do. The cigar, like the others in the Miami line, are wrapped in cedar, then put into cello.

Pre-light, the cigar had a light leathery taste. The one thing I did notice is that, when smelling the wrapper, I could detect strong ammonia. I couldn't detect it on the pre-light draw though. So I wonder if the wrapper was rushed a little.

Upon lighting, the first third of the cigar had primarily a leather flavor. Mixed within was cinnamon, a little pepper, and a nutty flavor. I was able to detect some ammonia as well. It wasn't harsh, but it was affecting the flavor.

The second third offered up light cocoa, cedar and nutmeg. Again, I could detect some ammonia. I noticed that the wrapper was not burning as well in some places, almost like the filler and binder were burning better. Touch ups were needed to keep a good burn going at times.

The remainder of the cigar was stronger in cedar flavor now. Cinnamon and nutmeg helped to balance out the flavor. Ammonia was still present.

As mentioned, I did have to touch up the burn at times to keep it going or keep it in line. The ash was white to light gray, and although flaky, did hold very well. I do believe that the wrapper was the issue...not being ready, it would appear.

Overall, I can tell that there is some very good flavor in this medium-body cigar. It just isn't ready in my opinion right now. At least this particular stick wasn't. I would give this one another go, but it would have to be after they have sat for a little while.

Burn time was 2:10.
