  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

It pains me to say it, but this is the last Curivari that I have to review. But, it needed to be sacrificed for review, as I want to make sure that everyone knows about as many new or unknown cigars that were at IPCPR.

The El Gran Rey is composed of all Nicaraguan tobaccos. It has a dark tan, oily, wrapper with some slight veins. The construction on this full body cigar is very good. The belicoso format (5 3/8 x 52) has a nice clean cap to finish off the head.

After a clip with my Palio, the pre-light draw has a light tobacco flavor, mixed with a bit of cocoa. Upon lighting, the cigar unleashes a strong cocoa and spice flavor. Mixed within are notes of coffee and leather. The ash held solid through the first third, with a few flakes falling off periodically.

The second third brought out a stronger flavor of spice. The cocoa flavor moved to the background along with the coffee, leather, and some hints of cedar.

Moving into the final third, the flavor of coffee came to the forefront, and mixed with a stronger cocoa flavor. Spice, leather and cedar filled in the background to create a very flavorful finish to this cigar.

Overall burn time for the El Gran Rey was 90 minutes.

Once again, I was very impressed with this offering from Curivari. I think this cigar, along with the others from the line, should be able to find a place in anyone's humidor. I look forward to smoking more of the Curivari line in the future.

Is this another new company? Sounds like a pretty good stick--thanks for the review!
From what I have read, they have been around since at least 2006. They have mainly been selling in Europe, based on what I was told at IPCPR.
