Forcade Cigar Company released a new cigar at IPCPR this year, named for the family which gives the name to the company: Forcade. The company is owned by sisters Chistrian Forcade and Annia Vazquez. I had the pleasure to meet them, and they gave me a sample of the Forcade, in addition to both the natural and maduro versions of their original cigar, Giralda. The cigars are produced in the My Father Cigar factory in Esteli, Nicaragua, and are blended by Jaime Garcia.
The Forcade currently is a medium body cigar in a natural wrapper and only shown to be available in a 6 x 52 toro size with the card included. It is a little hard to tell in the first couple of pics (due to sunlight), but there is a nice sheen to the wrapper, and there are some slight veins.
After cutting the cigar with my Palio, the pre-light draw has slight notes of honey and spice. The draw is fairly nice....not loose at all.
The first third of the cigar offers up the same honey and light spice offered in the pre-light draw, but there is also some taste of graham cracker. This first third reminds me of a DPG Cuban Classic in a way...but without the same power.
The second third brings out some strong, but not heavy cedar. There are also undertones of the same honey, but not as strong. The taste of nutmeg also hides in the background.
The final third was more of a woody taste, like oak. It wasn't overwhelming, but was strong. There was some slight cedar and the spice that disappeared in the second third, returned.
The burn on the cigar was quite good, especially for the fact that I was driving while smoking (don't worry, I took the pics while stopped). The burn was practically straight, and didn't require touch-ups. The ash was a nice light grey color.
Overall smoke time was about 90 mins. I was impressed with the flavor of the cigar, but I think the last third's flavor will improve with some time sitting. I look forward to trying one of these cigars again.
Thank you to Annia and Chistrian for the sample!
