It is only fitting that since I reviewed the Giralda Natural, that I also review the Giralda Maduro. This cigar was one that I was looking forward to trying, after finishing the natural. The main reason because this cigar is more of a medium-full to full cigar. Also because of the wrapper!
The Giralda maduro has a beautiful, oily, toothy Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper. A perfect triple cap finishes off the head of this well-made cigar. The wrapper has minimal veins present.
After a quick, clean cut with my Palio, the pre-light draw has notes of coffee and leather. Upon lighting, the Giralda maduro has dominant flavors of coffee and leather, mixed with notes of dark chocolate. There is light spice, and some of the traditional pepper (from Pepin cigars) on the back of the throat.
The second third of the cigar offered up primarily a dark chocolate and coffee flavor. There were hints of light spice and pepper as well.
After breaking of that very tight, light gray ash, the final third of the Giralda maduro was loaded with coffee and leather. The pepper began to pick up, again at the back of the throat. There were also slight notes of dark chocolate.
As I was expecting, I really enjoyed this cigar. It is amazing what the change to a Broadleaf maduro can do to a good cigar. It takes it over the top! The perfect construction shined through as the burn was perfect, and the ash held tight and was compact, light gray.
Overall burn time was 90 minutes.
