  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Visiting the Miami Cigar booth, I was approached by Arielle, who was handing out samples of a cigar that will be released this fall. The cigar, called La Sirena, is the project that she created, along with Rene Castaneda, Vice President of Miami Cigar.

Pictured above is the Double Corona size, which is one of five sizes that will be available: Corona, Robusto, Double Corona, 6x60, and Belicoso (IIRC). The cigar is made in Esteli, at the My Father Cigars factory. La Sirena is a full body cigar, featuring a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper.

The cigars being handed out were the Double Corona size. I had smoked one the following morning, on a fresh palate, and was really impressed. So much so, that I was telling everyone I knew to go check them out.

Arielle had said that her favorite size was the Corona. Luckily she had some there, and I was able to get a couple. This is the size that I have for review right now.

The Corona measures 5.5x42. The dark brown wrapper has a slight shine to it, some slight veins, and is somewhat toothy. The construction is very good. Pre-light, the La Sirena has a cocoa and light pepper flavor.

The first third of the cigar has a semi-sweet chocolate flavor mixed with coffee. There is some strong pepper on the tongue, but it doesn't hit hard at the back of the throat. The burn is spot-on, as it does well keeping itself in-line. The ash is solid, and is bright white in color.

Entering the middle third of the La Sirena, coffee comes out as a dominant flavor. There are notes of cocoa and leather in the background. The pepper, while still present, has calmed down a little. The solid, white ash continues to come from a straight burn.

The cigar finishes with a flavorful blend of coffee and leather. Mixed within are bits of cocoa and light pepper.

I was really impressed with both the Double Corona and the Corona version of the La Sirena. Without a doubt, it is a full-body, full-flavor cigar. I think that they are a great cigar right now, as a pre-release, and cannot wait for them to be released in November. I also think that these cigars will have great potential for aging. This was one of my favorite cigars that I smoked at the show....quite possibly my favorite. There is a close race between three cigars.

Thanks again to Arielle for the samples!

Overall burn time for the Corona size was 85 minutes.

Thanks for the terrific review and photos.

How does this compare to the Nestor Miranda Dominicano? It's my understanding that the La Sirena also uses a significant amount of Domincan tobacco in the blend.

I am eagerly awaiting these and their Art Deco line.

Thanks again.

From the strength of the cigar and the flavors, I wouldn't think that there is any Dominican tobacco in it. Also, as far as I know, the only cigars that Pepin has done with Dominican tobacco are only for Nestor Miranda....which the La Sirena is not under. I am not positive, but I will find out for you.

Great review.

I smoked the double corona the other day and it was great. I was surprised by the strength and spice on it. I really enjoyed it and look forward to them hitting shelves, the belicoso's going to be my jam.

There is no Dominican Tobacco in the La Sirena. It is a Connecticut Broadleaf with Nicaragua Binder & Filler.
