Pete Johnson brought out two new short corona cigars, both at this year's IPCPR: the Verocu No. 5 and the Petit Cazadores Reserva. I had an opportunity to try these earlier this spring, and was looking forward to their eventual release. I had smoked a few of these, and thought that it was incredible. I did however, have quite a bit to smoke during that trip, so I wanted to give this cigar a chance for review with a clean palate.
Being a "Reserva" cigar, that of course means that the Petit Cazadore Reserva features the oily, dark brown Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. It is 4x40 in size, and has a covered foot.
Leather and a little bit of pepper were present on the pre-light draw. The first half of the Petit Cazadore Reserva had a strong flavor of cocoa and pepper. Bit of coffee and leather were mixed within.
Two-thirds of the way through, this cigar could still hold onto the bright white ash.
The second half of the cigar gave off more of a coffee and leather flavor. Cocoa and light pepper mixed within, and the finish had a slight taste of cedar.
This cigar is a tremendous "short" smoke. I put it in quotes because it only speaks of the size...as it lasted me over 1 hour. It's a great combination of flavor and pepper, that basically flipped halfway through. Another positive is that this cigar is also regular production....looking forward to smoking more of these ROTT and with some age.
