  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

It's bottling time....I think

I used to do cider when I was a highschool student. I decided to get back into cider this fall, and work into beer.

It will be like a cider with beer qualities. I couldn't tell you for sure as this is my first batch.

Alright I have two bottles short of a full case of grolsch bottles bottled with the Graff Cider recipe. I will know in about two-three weeks whether I did good or I blew the recipe.

Note to self: Buy Grolsch fiptops from the nearby beer store the other place had a case at least a year old. (it tasted old)

Okay so I busted a bottle of this stuff out. It's not properly carbed up but it tastes great. Good apple flavor with beer body and not super sweet. I need to move the cases indoors to allow them to carb up properly. The garage is too cold for the remaining yeast to eat up the priming sugar.

Well the general opinion is that this stuff is good. I will advise that if you make it try and use apple juice that does not have added asorbic acid (vitamin C). I think it makes the cider a bit more tart that it would be normally. This could be due to it being a fairly young brew. Afterall I bottled it on the 6th and it was just enough time for it to carbonate for christmas drinking.

I have another batch getting close to bottling and I used 100% juice not from concentrate with nothing added. I will compare this fresh to a couple bottles if the original brew with the added acid.
