  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

My wife and I were feeling a milder smoke this evening, since we had a light dinner (I can spare to loose a few pounds...). So we decided to try a JdN Cabinetta Serie. I been seeing more and more manufacturers doing the two different wrappers on one cigar.

This wrapper was 2/3s Ecuadorian shade, 1/3 Nicaraguan Criollo. Filler and binder are Nicaraguan. Very good looking cigar, well constructed. The shade wrapper was veiny, since it is such a light wrapper.

Pre-light:
This cigar smells of barn yard and nuts. Took my xikar Xi2 to the beautiful cap and it cut very nicely. The cold draw was tight, but sweet and nutty. Took my soft flame lighter to the foot and it lit very easily.

1st 3rd:
Very creamy, sweet, nutty cigar. The most noticeable was the sweetness. This is one of the more sweeter cigars that I've had that wasn't infused. The first few puffs resulted in a tingling in the back of my throat. As I was finishing the first 3rd, the sweetness was still there, but more of a tobacco/woody taste started to emerge. Flaky, grayish ash held on for the first 3rd. It's more of a light-medium. It also produces a lot of smoke (not liga amount, but still heavy)

2nd 3rd:
The creamy, sweet taste is slowly lessening and and more of a barnyard/hay mixed with nuts takes over. At tmes, it gets a little harsh, but purging helps and brings some of the sweetness back. Burn is razor sharp and ash holds on for half of the 2nd 3rd. Once fallen, the smoke becomes much harsher and leathery as the criollo wrapper is approaching. Purging doesn't really help.

last 3rd:
We are fully into the criollo wrapper and it's burning hot. A harsh leather dominates with no sweetness or cream flavors. It's a solid medium. Purging does not help with the hotness. The burn is still razor sharp. 1 inch left and I had to put it down. The cigar became quite harsh and hot, making my throat itch and a dry mouth.

Conclusion:
for around $5-6, the first half of this cigar was phenomenal. Smooth, creamy, nutty with a hint of tobacco/leather. This cigar was new and only rested in my humidor for 5 days. I feel that maybe some time will help tone down the 2nd half and help smooth it out. I believe thus cigar is great for those who like multi-dimensional cigars. I would also say this cigar is perfect for those who are new to smoking. They can try The flavors change after every 3-4 puffs and always kept me interested. I'm use to the fuller-bodied cigars and this was a nice break. I look forward to smoking a few in 6 months.

Final smoking time: 1 hr 10 mins for the 5x52.
