Paired with black coffee and some Blues Instrumentals
First draw brings a sense of relaxation. First impression: smooth, med-full body, sweet, creamy earth with a touch of spice on the retro. There's a sasafrass root essence to the earthiness. Smoke dries the mouth a bit. The sweetness ebbs and flows reminiscent of black cherries on the high notes. The spice has picked up from a 2/10 to a 3/10. The sweetness lightly sours on the finish. The spice sticks to the back of the throat and has went from a 3/10 to a 5/10 as I hit the end of the first third. This cigar also has the honors of being my first entry into Ben's (Cigar Jedi) dossier.
The profile has become woody as the earth waxes and wanes. Spice hit me at about an 8/10 in a quick pop. Excellent burn through the first third going into the second and a perfect draw that compliments it well. The body has left medium behind and is driving at a steady full. The creaminess feels like it's laced right through the middle and fades out to the tart/dry black cherry finish, the spice is staying in the 6/8 range and waters the eyes in moments of surge. The N Level is relaxing and heavies the eyes. The profile is elegant for its robust body and the two marry well. The spice and body hit me at full force and make for a 25-35% retro most times. The creaminess wanes when the spice is strong and flows back in on the breaks. I'm nearing the final third and the band just slides right off.
The profile has stayed consistent only really allowing for a steady progression of body and spice. The smoke dries my mouth to the point that it reminds me I have cold black coffee waiting to wet my palette lol...damn wish I would have remembered sooner because it pairs perfectly. I love cold coffee, as all the hidden flavors come out, especially the creaminess and chocolate flavors and a lot of times it reminds me of a delicious stout. This cigar has the burn you dream of in a full bodied cigar, you can relax and enjoy the buzz, getting lost in thought and drift back to take a puff, with it sitting patiently as if the burn was put on pause, just waiting for you to come back. Reminds me of my lab..always there, just waiting for me to say hello and give him a pat on the head. The ash breaks off easily but hangs on long enough for you to notice that you need to (1 1/2") no flaking and no fuss. The cream has built to include a nuttiness (on the boarder of peanut butter at times) as I work the final third and it all blends together with my coffee to make for an exceptional experience.
The nub finishes, strong, creamy and smooth mixed with some tart, spicy punches. The profile isn't complex but it is blended perfectly and creates a delicious course, never boring and the burn time fits the blend like a glove. Sometimes a cigar is nearly perfect.. This one comes close for me, in the here and now. Try one and decide for yourself.
