  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Cigar Cowboy posted a thread wanting some info on this stick the other day. Well that planted a seed in my brain that couldn't be shaken. I simply had to smoke the one I had in my humi. So this fine afternoon after the baby was asleep, I gathered my things and headed to the deck...

The 777 carries a maduro criollo wrapper from Nicaragua, corojo binder, and a mix of corojo and criollo for the filler. The cigar smoked for this review is a robusto vitola and measures the standard 5 x 50. Upon inspection, this cigar is a beautiful chocolate mottled with a reddish color. The cigar is graced with a simple white, glossy band. There are some small veins present and they form a lace or web-like network throughout the cigar. The seams are barely visible, but tight. When squeezed the cigar is firm. There is an aroma of faint chocolate and tobacco, but the most noticeable aroma is that of a fresh cut flower arrangement. I had to do a triple sniff to make sure it wasn't floating in on the breeze! The cap came off cleanly and the draw is spot on. Flavors before lighting were a clean medium tobacco with just the slightest hint of chocolate.

I initially had some problems lighting this cigar due to the breeze making the flame on my lighter dance around. Once I got out of the wind, it took flame easily. Producing ample amounts of smoke, and the flavors are surprisingly mild. In fact almost absent for the first 1/2 inch or so.

Once the cigar gets going a little the flavors start to come out. I get a nice tobacco flavor with a hint of chocolate and some coffee through the retro.

The burn isn't razor sharp, but doesn't need any touch ups. The ash is a nice white/light gray color, tight, and falls in 1/2 to 1 inch clumps. The flavors remain consistent through the first third.

Transitioning into the second third I'm starting to pick up a floral flavor, much like the aroma before lighting the cigar. It's not a bad flavor, but not one I'm sure I care much for in a cigar. At any rate it doesn't last long.

The cigar started to canoe a bit during the second third and required a touch up. The flavors also start to change a bit. The hint of chocolate disappears and is replaced by more of a slightly sweet coffee, which is more pronounced on the retro (more of a roasted coffee bean). There has also been a pronounced, but brief, oak flavor on occasion.

Unfortunately this is about where the cigar went out. Upon relighting, there started to develop some unpleasant flavors and I was having a hard time keeping it going so I gave it up. Total smoke time was about 1 hour 10 minutes, but there was about another 15 or 20 minutes left probably. Would I smoke it again...yeah. Will I buy more...probably not, there are other cigars I like better.

A big thanks to TatGuy for bombing me and making this whole review possible .
