When I was young I had a group of about 8 that hung around like super glue. Once you got us together you couldn't ever break us apart. We continued all the way thru highschool and even thru most of our young 20s. A few years ago some started to get married and work as always started to get in the way. We always seemed to find time the last few years to get together once in a while. But never like when we were younger. One of the 8 was Jim.
Yesterday I got a phone call from another of the 8 that Jims dad had passed at the age of 54. He died of cancer and was in hospice for some time. Jim was always the kid who although his parents were not wealthy by any means he was spoiled rotten. Tons of junk food in the house, lots of video games and pcs and a few bucks in Jims pocket were always found as well. I'm starting to realize I'm getting to that point in my life were fathers and mothers of are beloved 8 may be getting to the age of passing. While still young that chance is still there. It saddens me that this is happening but indeed life waits for no man or woman.
I woke up this a.m. and worked out again before leaving the firehouse and headed right for the shop to smoke something special. I knew exactly what I wanted to try. A Padron 44th maddie, just 10 years younger then Jims dad (at least on the band). I'll be reviewing it here this morning. I would ask if you have one that today you smoke it with me as well. Lets celebrate our friendships we've made here as well as our friends and family in general. Life is too short to smoke the bad ones. Thanks for your time and the review will be forth coming this morning right here.
Jim this ones for you and your family,
Justin
Padron 44th Maduro
Start time 9:10 a.m.
Final smoking time: 2 hrs 15 mins.
Drink: Coffee before starting
Location: inside the Leaf
Temp: 72 degrees
General prelight impressions of this cigar show absolutely no signs of flaws and prelight smells of cocoa and rich tobacco abound. Cut with Palio and more heavy tobacco on prelight draw with a PERFECT draw as well.
1st Inch: Heavy amounts of rich smoke with sweatness to the palate. Some minor burns issues right of the bat but lets wait and see what happens.
1st 3rd: This gem of a cigar is starting to get good. Heavy amounts of smoke on every draw with plenty of spice and coffee notes. Rich cocoa as well to boot. If I smoke this blind I would like to think that I would immediately guess a Padron blend indeed. Dropped a ugly ash at 1 inch and now she is burning much better.
2nd 3rd: Still heavy amounts of smoke with every draw. Tons of Padron goodness with more heavy earth, rich cocoa and coffee. Nut much change but I'm not complaining. A touch up here and there and the ash not really holding strong but they just came in a couple days ago. It's early and the cigar is starting to show its strength with only a light breakfast.
Final 3rd: Amped up amonts of smokes some spice snuck back in as well. Really heavy amounts of dark coffee and earth still abound. What a great smoke to celebrate life in general. Great way to pay tribute to all my friends no matter who and where they are.
Final thoughts: This cigar is a gem in my book and Padron pulled out no stops to make this one of their best. Great amounts of flavor and smoke. Early yes but still a great smoke wether after a heavy meal or to start your day.(full bodied and got me a great buzz) Have 2 left and will definitely smoke them sometime this year.
In a few hours I'll be seeing some long time friends and saying my goodbyes.
