This weekend, I went to a Drew Estate Event and while talking with Jonathan Drew, he told me about his new line of Rum, Rye Whiskey, and a Mash Destroyer. The company is called John Drew Brands and they are currently at:
    • every Binny's location throughout Chicagoland
    • the entire Atlanta area
    • ABC Liquor in Florida
    • ...I think he mentioned the Massachusetts and Rhode Island areas as well

Unfortunately, he didn't bring any with him so I haven't tried it yet but I am heading Florida in December and I intend to pick up a few bottles while I'm there.

That being said, I thought I'd ask, have you tried any of his spirits yet and what do you think?

I've seen them locally and have passed on them. The rye is sourced from Alberta CA and the mash destroyer is a rum whiskey mix.

I've had the Rye and it's okay served chilled and neat. It's very very sweat though and not suitable in cocktails IMO.

Rye is 50, rum is 35, and mash crap is 40.

Despite what everyone else says, I'm going to try it. Not only do I like to learn the hard way but I've also found that my palate is more open/tolerable to things than most people (other than vegetables).

...but hey, maybe I'll hang my head in shame with you.

It sounds to me that like a lot of what the guy sells, it is overpriced for what it is. Not saying that it may not be a quality product, just that for the money there is probably other options out there that I personally enjoy more. I respect that man for building an empire from basically nothing, but I don't see him consuming his own product the way I see other brand owners do and it rubs me the wrong way.

I tried them all at the barnsmoker.. didn't care for the rye, but I'm not a big fan of rye. It seemed to have an extra strong, bright smokey rye flavor that was just more than I'm used to, if you're a fan it may be worth a try. The rum was good, but very sweet, almost made me think fireball or something.. and the mash was like a mix of the two, which wasn't bad at all.. I'd be down for mojitos with the rum, but pass on the rest after seeing the price point..

Now what kind of friend would I be if I allowed you to go on enjoying poor whiskey, without stepping in and messing that up for you by ruining you?

IMHO, these are lifestyle products, not intended for connoisseurs or hobbyists. We are not the target market.

Well, except for Brandon, he is the target market.
